Application for a Work Permit

Foreign students who want to work in Taiwan must hold a valid work permit.

With the exception of summer and winter vacations, students with work permit may work a maximum of 16 hours per week while the work permit is valid. The maximum duration of a work permit for foreign students, overseas Chinese students, and ethnic Chinese students is 6 months. A new work permit shall be applied for after expiration.

Students can apply for work permits at the Council of Labor Affairs, or each school's office of students can apply collectively for work permits to Council of Labor Affairs by mail. Application forms can be downloaded from the BEVT (Bureau of Employment and Vocational Training) website address at www2.evta.gov.tw. The standard process usually takes 5 working days to issue a work permit. For other questions concerning work permit, please visit the BEVT website.

In order to encourage excellent foreign students to work in Taiwan , the government made a new regulation this December. Those who get “The Taiwan scholarship Program” offered by our government can apply for extension for one year to find a job in Taiwan before graduation. Graduates just collect related documents and go to city/county police stations to apply for extending the period to June 30 th next year before an Alien Resident Certificate expired
